Saint Valentine, the protector of lovers, celebrated around the world, born in Umbria, is in fact the Patron Saint of his home town, Terni.
Here, every year, in the month of February, many events and initiatives are held, dedicated to the festival of love.
Concerts, events, conferences, exhibitions and religious celebrations are hosted over a long period of celebrations, attracting a large number of tourists.
Valentine events in Terni
A generous calendar of events over the weeks around February 14th makes Terni the city of love.
These initiatives include art and poetry contests, as well as baking, concerts, exhibitions. There is the International Saint Valentine’s Marathon, the exhibition/market of chocolate and gift ideas for lovers and themed guided tours, exploring the city and the history of its Patron Saint.
Every year initiatives promoted by both public and private bodies are posted on the internet to offer a very broad programme of events that draw a large and diverse audience through initiatives that truly cater to all tastes.
Saint Valentine of Terni: the programme of events for 2020
For 2020 the programme of events for Saint Valentine is particularly extensive and covers a full two months, all of February and March.
The events begin on February first with the “Saint Valentine’s Sweets and Liqueur Contest” which includes the creation and production of baked goods, chocolates and liqueurs to help promote a gastronomic identity linked to lovers’ day and the local area.
On February 2nd the 40th edition of the Saint Valentine’s Marathon will be held, while on February 6th there will be the exhibition of the Police Force’s Fanfare, with the attendance of Prefect Franco Gabrielli, the Head of the Police Force.
“Romantic Selfie” is the initiative scheduled for February 7th: romantic selfie sets will be installed in Corso Vecchio, Piazza Corona, San Pietro, Teatro Verdi, San Lorenzo. On Saint Valentine’s Day, February 14th, at the Basilica, mass will be celebrated several times throughout the entire day and the Solemn Mass, held by Bishop Giuseppe Piemontese, at 11:00am.
From February 13 to 15, music and entertainment will take over the main streets of the centre of town, whereas Valentine Fest will be held from the 13th to the 16th – writers, musicians, poets explore the world of sentiment and emotion, at Cultural Centre Caos -, Terre di San Valentino Festival – exhibition/market of chocolate and local products – and Pensieri d’amore – exhibition/market of gift ideas for lovers.
On February 16th, among the many appointments, the programme includes the tenth edition of the International Saint Valentine’s Marathon while the “Le rose di Valentino” musical will be held on February 29th at the Secci Theatre.
“San Valentino Arte 2020” will be held from February 8th to the 23rd, the seventh edition of the international art contest, and on March 28th the awards ceremony for the poetry “Io amo di più” (I love more) will be held.
