Umbria is the ideal region for taking a break from your everyday routine, immersing yourself in the beauty of nature and ancient hamlets where you can bask in old medieval stories and enjoy excellent food. There are also people who, in the tranquillity of the region’s landscape, enjoy a moment of relaxation and wellbeing by spending a day at the hot springs.
In Umbria there are not a great many spas, but the few are well equipped with all of the amenities and ensure wonderful moments of pampering, on your own, as a couple or group of friends. Let’s find out where you can find hot springs in Umbria.
Where are the hot springs in Umbria?
Of the alternatives that Umbria offers, it is also possible to choose a healthy bath in a thermal spa. Here are the five thermal spas in Umbria where you can spend a day of relaxation.
In Assisi there are the Santo Raggio Thermal baths
The Santo Raggio Thermal baths, in ancient times known as Santureggio, are a few hundred metres from the centre of Assisi, in Piazza Giorni. The thermal site, dating back to the II century B.C., was relaunched in the ’80s with a very modern programme to exploit the thermal waters. The water, which flows out at 15° from its source on Colle Moiano, helps treat diseases of the urinary and digestive tracts, as well as illnesses of the metabolism, liver and biliary tract.
In Cerreto di Spoleto there are the Triponzo Thermal baths
The Triponzo thermal baths are located in the Valnerina mountains. At this spa, of Roman and Arab design, there are 4 pools of hot and cold water and an area dedicated entirely to treatments.
In Città di Castello (PG) the Fontecchio Thermal baths
This beneficial water flows from clay-rich calcareous soil at a temperature of 16° C. The facility stands on a large centuries-old estate, rich in natural sources and woods. Ranked as Prime Category Super Thermal Spa, at this facility you can choose from a great array of treatments.
In Spello the Francescane Thermal baths
The Francescane Thermal Baths are at the feet of Mount Subasio, completely immersed in the greenery. The facility has preserved the shape of the ancient Roman baths and, inside, in addition to the many treatments, it is also possible to bathe in the three pools of hot water, with regenerating jets, waterfalls and hydromassage.
In Massa Martana the San Faustino Thermal baths
The thermal baths are located in a marvellous natural setting amidst the Martani mountains. This centre, in addition to offering saunas, hydromassage, Turkish bath and rooms for massages, it also specialises in lymphatic drainage treatments and food intolerance testing. It is currently closed for major renovation work.
In Terni the famous San Gemini Thermal baths
The San Gemini thermal baths, near Terni, are certainly worth a visit for the beauty of the Parco delle Fonti (Sources Park) where they are located, but also as they are among the most famous thermal baths in Italy, especially for the beneficial qualities of the drinking water.
