From 20 to 22 September 2024 it is time to jump onto your bike for the Francescana: Umbria’s historical cycling event that starts and finishes in Foligno.
A programme packed with events along the streets of Foligno to celebrate and spread the concept of cycling tourism, but it is also for people who love visiting the city on foot! Let’s discover the programme of the Francescana.
Foligno: the bike-friendly city
Foligno is a truly bike-friendly city. It is part of the Comuni Ciclabili di FIAB project for bicycle-friendly cities, and has been awarded a rating of 3 Smiling Bikes and is the historical stop of Giro d’Italia and Tirreno Adriatica.
From 20 to 22 September, visiting Foligno is a unique experience for cycling enthusiasts, or for anyone who wants to learn more about it.
The Historical Cycling Tour: the circuits
For the 2024 edition, the ciclostorica francescana “Francescana historical cycling event” is divided into two circuits, both starting from Foligno and finishing back at the starting point:
- The Long Circuit is medium difficulty level, it is about 70 km long and includes several stop overs. It takes you to the Castel of Sant’Eraclio, along the road of olive trees all the way to Trevi. The trail continues to Campello sul Clitunno where you can admire the marvellous sources. You return to Foligno passing through Piandarca and Cannara
- The Short Circuit is 35km on flat ground. An easy trail that runs along Casco dell’Acqua (that the Clitunnno river crosses) and continues to the beautiful square in the medieval hamlet of Bevagna and the tiny Aiso Lake.
A must-see event in the city
Apart from the event organised for the participants of the Historical Francescana Bike Ride, Foligno turns into a city full of wonders:
Round tables to explore the world of cycling tourism and the history of the Francescana, but also bike rides organised in the town centre, dancing in the evening and street theatre.
On Saturday and Sunday it is possible to browse the stands of the vintage market from 9am to 7:30pm.
