Cultural and religious events, Easter in Todi 2019

There are plenty and many different types of events and initiatives happening in Todi for Easter 2019. In addition to traditional religious celebrations, which are always particularly popular and engaging, there are events dedicated to music and culture, talks and art: let’s check them out.

 

Il volto sulla città – The Face of Christ on the City

From April 4 to 28, and therefore also during the Easter period, the second edition of “Il Volto sulla Città” will be held, a festival dedicated to the Shroud, with the reading of the Divine Comedy, talks about Jacopone da Todi, movie screenings, conferences and concerts.

The event is curated by Alberto di Giglio, with the participation of important guests and speakers and will be held in various venues in the historical centre of town.

 

Todi Columns

2019 is the year that Todi is dedicating to American artist Beverly Pepper, who has made Todi her home The initiatives paying tribute to the American painter and sculptor who has made this Umbrian town her home, from April 6 to May 12 in Piazza del Popolo, include the “Todi Columns” making their return, four large sculptures, approximately 10 metres tall, installed for the first time in the town in 1979, exactly 40 years ago.

 

Contemporary art

At the Torcularium Hall in the Nido dell’Aquila (Eagle’s Nest) complex, during April and May, and therefore also over Easter, the contemporary art show of painter Alban Cela will be held.

 

Festival di Primavera – Spring festival

The second edition of “Festival di Primavera” will be held in the months of April and May: notes and music by Maestro Andrea Cortesi, with concerts in some of the most charming locations in Todi.

 

Sacred representations

On April 14 at the Santuario dell’Amore Misericordioso di Collevalenza (Mother Speranza’s Sanctuary of Merciful Love)there will be a sacred representation of the entrance of Jesus in Jerusalem, whereas on the 19th, at the Tempio di Collevalenza (Church of Collevalenza), and in Todi at 8:00 p.m. there will be the representation of The Passion of the Christ.
