The All Saints’ Day long holiday weekend in Umbria is a particularly lively time, for both the many traditions that are celebrated and for the many events taking place in the region.
Like every year, November 1st is the first public holiday after more than two months straight without a single national public holiday stepping in to shake up our weekly routine.
Since August we haven’t had a break for a relaxing and pleasant day trip.
Now is our chance to do it, and for anyone looking for a destination to discover – or rediscover – Umbria.
Umbria with its events, food and attractions, is undoubtedly the ideal place to bask in the autumn atmosphere.
Below is an outline of the main events scheduled in “the green heart of Italy” for the All Saints’ Day long holiday weekend.
ALL SAINTS’ DAY MARKET AND AMUSEMENT PARK IN PERUGIA
The All Saints’ Day long holiday weekend, in Perugia and surrounding areas, is synonymous with the All Saints’ Day Market and the Amusement Park.
The first is the largest market in central Italy, held in the region’s capital – stretching from the suburbs, with Pian di Massiano and Piazza del Bacio, up to the historical centre.
Hundreds of stalls offering an extremely diverse selection: from clothing to house wares, from local products, crafts to food.
The market is held from November 1st to 5th. Perugia’s large amusement park will be open longer than the market – from October 12th to November 10th.
The area of Pian di Massiano will also be taken over by the Luna Park, with rides and attractions open from the early afternoon to late in the evening, for the thrill of young and old alike.
CHESTNUTS IN SPOLETO
From October 26th to November 4th, in Strettura, a typical hamlet in the Municipality of Spoleto, the star of the moment is the chestnut.
The star thanks to the “Festa del Marrone (Chestnut Festival)” bringing shows and music, food and tasting stands to the streets of the village.
WHITE TRUFFLE IN GUBBIO
Truffles, one of Umbria’s finest local products. On this occasion, the white truffle in particular will be the star of the November 1st long holiday weekend in the region. In fact Gubbio will be hosting the 38th edition of “Gubbio Land of Truffle – National Fair of White truffles and Agricultural Products”.
From October 31st to November 4th numerous initiatives will take over the streets of the city: conventions, showcooking, food stands and learning workshops, meet-and-greets and tastings.
YET MORE WHITE TRUFFLE … IN CITTÀ DI CASTELLO
Città da Castello is also the long-standing host of an event dedicated to the “king of the table”: the 38th edition of the “White Truffle Exhibition and Market” will be taking place from October 31st to November 4th, with tastings and stands, conventions and shows, exhibitions and workshops.
THE FOREST FESTIVAL IN MONTONE
In autumn, Montone celebrates the “Forest Festival – Exhibition and Market of Forest and Undergrowth Products”.
From October 31st to November 3rd the town holds this particularly evocative event, as it is set up in charming venues such as workshops, street-level cellars and old tradesmen’s shops.
The festival revolves around the obvious truffles, mushrooms, chestnuts, but also cheeses and cured meats, preserves, honey and the fine white potatoes of Pietralunga.
One can also enjoy music and shows, entertainment for children. New this year, a shuttle bus that takes visitors through the forest into the centre of town.
OIL IN TREVI
Autumn in Umbria is also the period of new wine and new oil, and the latter is the star of the event “Festivol- Trevi among oil, art, music and taste buds!”. Visits to mills and walks through olive groves, ad hoc menus, markets, bruschetta in the town square, chestnuts and music.
